Love Cambridge Community Partnership Fund -

The Big Switch On

Love Cambridge are inviting businesses and organisations across Cambridge to form a community consortium to help keep Christmas alive in the city of Cambridge.

The Big Switch On Event is a free event to switch on the festive lights in and around the city centre but there is a considerable cost associated with this. It is attended by thousands of visitors and residents every year and we need your help to ensure it continues to benefit the local community.

With four stages across the city centre with entertainment and performances from local community groups, schools and local musicians the day plays a big part in launching the festive season.

The Big Switch On itself takes place in front of the Market Square to a crowd of thousands all waiting in anticipation of which ‘star’ is going to flick that switch!

The 2011 Big Switch On is taking place on Sunday 20th November.  Entertainment starts at midday with the Switch On itself taking place at 17:00

Fantastic Opportunity for Independent Businesses

Family of Guides – Shopping Edition 2

An opportunity has arisen for your business to feature in the award winning Love Cambridge Shopping Guide that forms part of the Family of Guides.

In 2009 Love Cambridge identified a gap in the market for high quality promotional literature on Cambridge. As a result the family of guides concept was developed which saw the series of guides published covering key areas of information for the visitor to Cambridge.

In June 2011 Love Cambridge was awarded the Best Marketing, Events & Promotions Award at the Association of Town Centre Management annual conference for this project.  This award recognises best practise across the UK promoting towns & cities.

What are the guides?

There are currently four guides that sit together as a family in bespoke racks distributed at key entry points to the city and in key locations across the city. The guides consist of:

  • Day and Night
  • Shopping
  • Transport
  • Markets
The guides are available for free pickup throughout the city in the following locations

  • In all major shopping centres
  • The Tourist Information Centre
  • A large number of hotels and B&B’s throughout the City
  • A number of Cambridge University Colleges
  • Cambridge Museums
  • All Park and Ride sites
  • Conference Venues
  • A number of schools, libraries and letting agents
  • Online via the above locations and the Love Cambridge website (www.love-cambridge.co.uk)

Love Cambridge Shopping Guide

We are now working on Edition 2 of the Shopping Guide and have a number of opportunities for Independent Businesses to get involved and promote their products and services to thousands of visitors and users of the city.  The print run will be 100,000 and anticipated shelf life will be 18 months.

Recognising the importance of independent retailers in Cambridge approximately 50% of the guide is dedicated to promoting such businesses in a section entitled ‘Hidden Gems’ of the city

Option 1:

Approximately 40 words plus image and businesses contact details will cost £150 + VAT

Option 2:

Approximately 80 words plus image and business contact details  plus a FREE entry into our new voucher booklet (see below for further details) will cost £300 +VAT

NEW Love Cambridge Voucher Booklet in partnership with Cambridge News

Launching in Autumn 2011, the Voucher Book will detail a range of Autumn/Winter offers from a number of different sectors.  With 64 unique vouchers and a planned shelf life of approximately 6 months, 10,000 hard copies of the Voucher Book will be printed.  With vouchers also available to download from the Love Cambridge website, the product will be highly accessible.

Taking a double space in the Shopping Guide will automatically give you a space in the voucher booklet free of charge.  All that we ask is that you adhere to the expected shelf life and do not restrict the offer too heavily during this time.

The remaining vouchers will be distributed at the discretion of Love Cambridge to ensure there is balanced mix of businesses and sectors represented within the voucher book.

So, to confirm your place in both the Shopping Guide and Voucher Book please call 01223 457198 or email becky.burrell@love-cambridge.co.uk. Deadline for submissions is Friday 19th August 2010.  Places booked are on a first come first served basis.

We have also launched the award for Contribution to Climate Change and those organisations that have signed up to the Charter have been sent a self nominating form to highlight what changes they have made to contribute to reducing the citys carbon emissions.  This will be judged by a panel of experts.

Once again, we will also be working with Cambridge City Council to host The Way to Be Awards on 15th September.

Bridge the Gap
Sunday 11 September 2011
9:30am - 2pm

The Bridge the Gap annual charity walk gives everyone the opportunity to take a leisurely stroll through rarely seen parts of Cambridge colleges – all for a good cause.

This year, we are celebrating our 10th anniversary and in order to make it an extra special event, we would like to include as many people as possible and to raise as much money as we can!

The event starts at 9.30am on Jesus Green.  The route will take you through a number of colleges, often into areas not normally accessible to the public.  This year walkers will also have the opportunity to see the Zoology museum.  There are tourist guides on hand to talk about the colleges and the other places of interest that you find on the route.

It is not a race and is for young and old, able and not so able.  Entrance for the under 16’s is free but they do need to be accompanied by an adult.  Over 16’s pay a £15 entrance fee. We also ask that you help us raise as much money as you can through sponsorship or donations.  We have prizes for the highest fundraiser in various categories, either as an individual or as a team.

For more information go to http://www.bridgethegapwalk.org/ You can also register on line or pick up a registration form from any branch of The Cambridge Building Society. Call us on 01223 723115

Grand Arcade News - September 2011

Grand Arcade’s autumn/winter fashion campaign
Grand Arcade brought fashion to life at Audley End House where the centre’s autumn/winter creative campaign was photographed. The Jacobean mansion provided an elegant backdrop for Grand Arcade’s new collections, to be previewed at the centre’s autumn fashion runway shows on Friday October 14th.

Lidia De Luca, Marketing and PR Manager for Grand Arcade, said: “Grand Arcade prides itself on shooting its advertising campaigns on location in the region and many of our retailers, including John Lewis, Ted Baker, Kurt Geiger, Coast, Azendi, The White Company and Carluccio’s have provided clothes, accessories, homeware, jewellery and gifts to be photographed.

“Grand Arcade always creates its very own campaigns to showcase the range of fashions and accessories available at our choice of 60 premium and high street retailers. Audley End House is the perfect setting for our autumn/winter trends of opulence, jewel colours, Forties glamour and country life, which will be previewed in our spectacular runway shows this October.

“Our Christmas campaign captures the array of gifts available at the centre and will show perfectly that Grand Arcade is where Christmas comes to life.”

Autumn Activity at Mayhem!

New season stock has arrived; Roxy, Lambretta, Gola and Quicksilver rucksacks and courier bags now in stock - many with extra padding and compartments for all those books and laptops.

So when you come in for a new school bag for the kids, why not benefit from this ‘’back to school’’ feeling with a whole new outfit for yourself?

Our favourite Scandinavian brands Only and Vila bring classy, affordable, lightweight knitted tunics and skinny corded chinos. Whilst new men’s brand, Selected, can offer the guys high quality, smart knitwear, polos and some great chinos.

The New Desigual collection helps you to look bright and beautiful even when the nights start to draw in. Staff favourite is the Sally Yin- a gorgeous Military style jacket with a full damask skirt hem feature.

The new Desigual men’s coat selection this year is fantastic, hidden under layers and removable fur means they can be worn for all 4 seasons! Layer up with a great new colourful shirt and tee ready for the autumn, whilst we all cross our fingers for that Indian summer we are always promised ( and in that case come in and see all of our lovely summer sale bargains!)
