Love Cambridge Charter Update
Love Cambridge held the highly successful Charter Awards last month at the Love Cambridge AGM. Love Cambridge spoke to Pippa Sandison from Boudoir Femme who won both the Best Overall Customer Service and Best Ambassador for Cambridge.
Pippa says "the awards and the resulting press coverage has been fantastic. We've had existing customers come into the store mentioning the awards and new customers coming to the store for the first time after seeing the press coverage. We display our awards in the window so we've also had new customers coming into the shop to see what the awards are all about."
Pippa continues "It's also been fantastic recognition for the hard working team here. They are extremely proud to be part of the Charter. I would encourage all businesses to join the Love Cambridge Charter."
There were two winners of the ‘Best Overall Customer Service’ which were Boudoir Femme, and ‘Bellanapoli Café’. The runner-up was the Christian Science Reading Room. There were also two winners of the ‘Best Ambassador for Cambridge’ which were Boudoir Femme, and the Granta Boat & Punt Company. The runners-up were Wesley Barrell, Bellanapoli Café, Doubletree by Hilton, and Sandra Jane..
If you haven’t already joined please visit our website here where you can find full details of the Charter, what’s in it for you and a list of companies who have already signed up.
The Charter has been developed to address three areas that we believe will help improve everyone’s experience of Cambridge making them want to come back again and again. The Charter looks at promoting excellent customer service within the city, ways in which we can improve the physical appearance of our streets, and also offer guidance on how taking small steps in reducing your carbon emissions can contribute to tackling climate change
|
|
Best Practice Forum
Love Cambridge would like to hear from you. As the next part of the Love Cambridge Charter looks at climate change we are currently compiling a list of useful businesses that we can share with members. Do you have any contacts you would like to share? Do you know an excellent cardboard recycler? Please send any details through to jo.humm@love-cambridge.co.uk or call 01223 457179

Between the Pages presents Between the Books
Book Arts in Cambridge. Book Art is a little known genre of art which is surprisingly rare in Cambridgeshire. Given that Cambridge is such an academic city, full of books and knowledge, it seems strange that one of the creative types so commonly found in the city has not seized the opportunity to transform all the local libraries with a wonderful melange of non-conformative 'books'. Since this opening is still available, this is exactly what we intend to do!
We are currently running a 10 week course in the art of creative book making and Candida Bradley, the tutor, and her team of newly converted Book Artists are making books of all shapes and sizes to share with us in an exhibition at Cambridge Central Library, providing a little bit of something different for the more studious book types. There will be 20-40 works included, exploring a diverse range of subjects, all displayed amongst the library’s own book collection.
We invite you to come and experience this unique display and learn more yourself about the world of Book Art.
The exhibition will be displayed in Cambridge Central Library between Saturday 11 December until Sunday 9 January.
In other ACE news, we have recently uploaded 5 of our 2011 music courses onto our website here. |

Fitz Favourites
28 October – 17 November 2010
Williams Art, Gwydir Street
This autumn, twenty artists from the Cambridge Arts Movement will be exhibiting a varied and exciting collection of new work inspired by their favourite art and objects in The Fitzwilliam Museum.
From Egyptian coffins to Persian ceramics, from Dutch to Venetian paintings, The Fitzwilliam’s dazzling array of collections is well known and well loved. Fitz Favourites will celebrate this diversity, with artists creating pieces influenced by a wide range of artworks and artefacts.
Exploring the ways in which we perceive and interpret art, this exhibition is a fascinating display of the artistic imagination at work, transforming art from the past into something new in the present.
Fitz Favourites is the Cambridge Arts Movement’s biggest exhibition yet, and one not to be missed. The work on display will feature pieces by: Alexandra Drysdale, Gail de Cordova, John Lyons, Tess Recordon, Deanna Tyson, Nicholas James Juett, Geertje Anderson, Rosemary Catling, Jill Ogilvy, Robert Good, Valerie Sims, Chrissie Havers, Jean Vincent, Alison Litherland, Rebecca Illett, Nick Ellis, Sue Rapley, David Brown, Neil Warmsley, Loukas Morley, Joanna Autumn Walker, Jess Sutton and Maureen Mace.
The Cambridge Arts Movement is proud to announce that the exhibition will be opened by Kate Carreno of The Fitzwilliam Museum and the Mayor, Cllr Sheila Stuart.
Dates: The exhibition runs between 28 October - 17 November and will be open 11-5 Tuesday – Friday, and 11-6 at weekends.
Special Preview: Wednesday 27 October 18:00 – 21:00. Kate Carreno of The Fitzwilliam Museum and the Mayor, Cllr Sheila Stuart will open the exhibition for Friends and Staff of The Fitzwilliam Museum, CAM members and Press only.
Private View: Friday 29 October 18:00 - 20:00.
CAM (Cambridge Arts Movement) is a new initiative bringing together a growing number of Cambridge artists from different disciplines including painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography and other media as well as embracing non-visual artists such as poets, musicians, playwrights etc.
CAM is a collective not driven by commercial sales: the founder artists are directly involved in the decision making, direction and creative goals of the group.
CAM’s first three months at its base, the Williams Art gallery in Gwydir Street, have seen large numbers of art lovers from within the community and further afield dropping in and being very pleasantly surprised. The CAM/Williams Art gallery at 5 Dale’s Brewery is quite unique; there is nowhere else within the City’s boundaries where original new work by Cambridge artists can be seen all year round. The artists meet every fortnight to discuss their output and refresh the exhibition so art lovers can always be sure of seeing something exciting and different at each visit.
Williams Art, 5 Dale’s Brewery, Gwydir Street, Cambridge CB1 2LJ
01223 311687. Visit the website here.
The gallery is open 11am to 6pm Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 5pm Saturday and 11am to 5pm Sunday, closed Mondays.
At weekends, the gallery is staffed by member artists.

Mill Road Winter Fair
Mill Road Winter Fair is the essence of Mill Road distilled into a single day. Over 100 of the shops, cafés and restaurants open their doors and offer unusual dishes from their cultures, things which they might not usually serve here in England. Talented local people from all over the world emerge from their homes with arts and crafts, performances, food, entertainments and a warm welcome in a day of general celebration.
It is, in the truest sense, a 'unique' event.
